i know that lots of you have been itching to host your own portrait party. well, here's the perfect excuse: june 7th is drawing day! so, gather your art supplies, invite some friends, and draw, draw, draw each other! the folks at drawingday.org and everyone here at the portrait party would love to see what you do.
this is one of the best portrait party stories that i have heard. our pal, kerstin klein, found this portrait of herself (above) on one of her favorite blogs, logbuch isla volante. to quote kerstin exactly, "i immediately recognized myself and thought i must be dreaming. i had to look twice. it is an incredible feeling to be drawn by someone whose art i have been admiring daily." being kerstin, she of course returned the favor (below).

arindam (portrayed above) and nina (portrayed below) swapped portraits. this is for the first time arindam drew the head and the neck of a portrait partner - as opposed to just the face. it's a minor change but a big improvement! and it's one of the things that makes watching all of your portrait swaps so much fun. i get to see the little changes that make your portraits better each time.
mark taro holmes shared this photo from a costumed portrait party that he had with his friends. i don't know if the other artists ended up drawing each other but here is mark's sketch of the model who did dress up, audra.
